Schloss Hohenwehrda is located at the edge of the Hessian biosphere reservation Rhön above the Wehrda and Haune valley. Its island location in the middle of the forest creates an atmosphere particularly supportive for studying: away from town life, the boarding school residents experience nature's calming effect and develop an ecological conscience. Boys and girls can attend grades 5 to 9 of Gymnasium (secondary school preparing for university qualification) and grades 5 to 10 of Realschule.
The boarding school Schloss Hohenwehrda in Hesse teaches children and teens from the 5th Realschule and Gymnasium grades, leading them to the Mittlere Reife certificate. The 5th and 6th grades form an orientation stage. We place special importance on permeability within the school forms. The prerequisites are made in 6th grade already. The objective is offering Realschule students the option of continuing to Gymnasium upper school in Bieberstein.
The school buildings are grouped around the former hunting chalet. They house 130 children and youths and their teachers. Hohenwehrda is a pure boarding school.
We consider our boarding school to be a social network that offers support and guidance for children in finding themselves in the scope of integrated education in times of progressing individualisation. Our 14 boarding school families comprise 8 to 10 children who form an age-mixed living unit with a teacher.
