The former knight's estate Haubinda in Thuringia is the oldest Hermann-Lietz school. Here, life is still in harmony with nature. In the middle of 90 ha of meadows and forests, with sheep and horses, students learn sustainable use of natural resources.
Today, 420 students attend grades 1 to 13 of this school with its branches of elementary school (Grundschule), Hauptschule, Realschule, Fachoberschule and Abitur.
About 140 students are living at the boarding school. The others attend Haubinda's day home and, of course, participate in the guilds and perform practical work in house and farm.
Anyone visiting the former knight's estate Haubinda and looking to feel the "spirit" of founder Hermann Lietz should visit his grave. His burial site is in a small copse of trees on the Kirschberg within the premises of the oldest Hermann-Lietz school Haubinda. The date of death of Hermann Lietz, 12 June 1919, is of particular importance for all three schools and honoured appropriately with special events.
